Moderna Vs Pfizer

This is one of my SMA Facebook posts from December.that I wanted to re-post here...

HERE IS THE COVID VACCINE LOWDOWN FOR ALL THOSE INTERESTED!
It's a lot of information, so let me try to condense it for everyone...

As we know, there are 2 COVID vaccines approved for Emergency Use: Pfizer and Moderna.  In terms of their efficacy and side effects, they are very similar.

Pfizer is for ages 16+
Moderna is for ages 18+

Pfizer was tested on over 40 thousand patients
Moderna was tested on over 30 thousand patients

Both are 95% effective in preventing COVID after the 2nd dose which is a great efficacy rate!

Pfizer vaccine is 2 doses given three weeks apart.

Moderna vaccine is 2 doses given four weeks apart (there is a four day grace period for both)

The most common adverse reactions for both are the following:
injection site pain
headache
fatigue
muscle pain

YOU CANNOT GET COVID DISEASE FROM THE VACCINE - IT IS NOT A LIVE VIRUS. AGAIN, YOU CANNOT GET THE DISEASE FROM THE VACCINE!
It takes about 2 weeks after the second vaccination to be protected from the coronavirus.

Yes, you should get the vaccine even if you already had COVID - just wait at least 90 days after infection.

Wait 14 days before getting any other vaccine after you receive the COVID vaccine (for example, wait 14 days before getting a flu shot or pneumonia vaccine)

Do not ask your doctor for COVID antibody testing. There is no use for antibody testing when determining if you should get the vaccine.

Yes, you should get the vaccine if you have diabetes.
Studies have not been done in pregnant women.
Studies have not been done in patients who are immunocompromised, but the general consensus is that they should get the vaccine as well, although their immune response may not be as strong.

Welcome!

Welcome to my Schuylkill Medical Associates blog!

I confess that I have never blogged before, nor am I very adept at social media, but I am going to do my best!  I will post things related to house call medicine,  geriatrics, COVID and maybe even throw in a few pictures of my pup who makes everyone smile!

I love what I do and hope that my enthusiasm shows through.

From my home to yours,
